8 Ways to Get Your Skin Ready for Winter

8 Ways to Get Your Skin Ready for Winter

8 Ways to Get Your Skin Ready for Winter
Cold temperatures, low humidity and extreme weather conditions can damage your skin. During the cold winter months you may notice that your skin is dull, itchy and dehydrated. Binge eating and binge drinking during a holiday season can only worsen the situation. Luckily, you can make your beauty routine less problematic in winter by following some easy and handy tips and tricks.

1. Stock up on creams

In winter your skin requires more care than in summer. During a cold season you should stock up on creams and avoid using lotions. Creams usually have heavier formulas and they may feel a bit more uncomfortable on your skin. But they are the best protectors against severe weather conditions. Winter creams contain more fatty ingredients, which prevent dehydration and roughness. Apply creams before bed and not less than 30 minutes before going outdoors. You should also skip light makeup formulas and consider heavier foundations, cream shadows and lipsticks.

2. Use a sunscreen daily

Many women mistakenly believe that their skin doesn’t need sunscreens in winter. In fact, sun is rather harmful to your skin all year round, and in winter the harmful effect is just reinforced by cold temperatures and wind. Unless you apply a sunscreen, you can get a burn even in winter. If your everyday cream doesn’t contain SPF, consider buying sunscreens with SPF 15 and higher. Sunscreens are essential if you spend a lot of time outdoors working or exercising. Make sure you apply your sunscreen at least half an hour before you go outdoors.

3. Don’t forget about your gloves

Gloves are often a very neglected and underrated item, thus most people decide to put on gloves only when the temperatures turn extremely cold. However, you should wear gloves during fall and winter seasons to protect your skin against redness, frostbite and roughness. The skin on your hands is much more sensitive and vulnerable during the cold winter months, so they need more moisturizing and nourishing than ever. For a better effect you can apply your hand cream before wearing gloves.

4. Take short showers

A long hot shower is really what I love and need in winter, but the truth is that hot showers are very harmful to the skin as well as soaking in a hot tub. Hot water promotes excess dryness and dehydration; it removes the upper protective layer of your skin and make it more vulnerable to irritants. Even if you have oily skin you’d better avoid using soaps. Instead, opt for nourishing shower gels and apply body creams and moisturizers right after you take a shower. Consider reducing your shower time and opt for lukewarm water while taking a bath.

5. Moisturize

Don’t wait until your hands and face become dry and scaly! You should start using moisturizers when the thermometer shows sub-zero temperatures. Pay special attention to your hands. Applying a hand moisturizer twice a day may be insufficient. Ideally, you should use hand creams 5 or 6 times a day, depending on your skin type. While you have a tube of a moisturizer in your bath, it’s also necessary that you carry a hand cream in your handbag and use it each time you wash your hands.

6. Reconsider your diet

You know that your skin reflects your health, thus it’s directly connected with your diet and nutrition. Have you ever noticed that your skin becomes sallow and flaky in winter? Perhaps, you need to reconsider your everyday diet and alter your eating habits. During a cold season your body requires more fats, that’s why you should skip a low-calorie diet and increase your intake of veggies, fish, dairy products and healthy fats. Sticking to a healthy diet will make your skin radiant and healthy and help you lose some pounds. Increase the consumption of citrus fruits, greens and seafood as well. Not only will it provide a protection against dryness and peeling, it will also slow down aging processes and reduce small wrinkles.

7. Stay hydrated

I rarely meet people who drink the recommended amount of water daily; even more rarely people drink enough in winter. You may not feel thirsty during a cold season, but in fact your hydration needs don’t depend on the season. Drinking a lot of water is highly beneficial to your health and beauty. It helps to get rid of toxins, increases elasticity and promotes rejuvenation. While you should drink at least 8 glasses of water per day, try to cut down on caffeine, carbonated water and black tea.

8. Don’t overlook scrubs

All your skin care products will appear useless if you don’t exfoliate your skin regularly especially during the fall months, since it helps to get your skin ready for winter. Dermatologists and beauty professionals say that you should exfoliate your skin 3 times a week during winter months. Not only will it help to remove dead cells, dirt and residues of cosmetics, it will also improve the complexion and texture of your skin. Using exfoliants three times a week is a sure way to a healthy and radiant skin. Winter outfit doesn’t display your body and heels, but they also need extra exfoliation in winter. Consider doing regular pedicure to avert cracked, unhealthy dry heels.
Getting ready your skin for winter can be a tough task. Moreover, maintaining a beauty routine in winter can be challenging, but it’s not so hard if you know some secrets. Indeed, winter can cause many problems to your skin. However, you can easily reduce the harmful effect and get your skin ready for winter by following the above-mentioned tips. Incorporate them into your beauty routine today and enjoy your healthy radiant skin even during winter months.

7 Creative Ways to Give Thanks This Thanksgiving

7 Creative Ways to Give Thanks This Thanksgiving

Creative Ways to Give Thanks This Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is around the corner and most people already anticipate gathering with their kinsfolk, hustle and bustle of holiday trips and plenty of delicious food. Thanksgiving is also a time to be grateful for everything you have in life. It’s time for people to remember that they shouldn’t take things for granted. Gratitude helps us to see how blessed and happy we are. You can think up numerous ways to express your gratitude without saying ‘Thank you’ at all. Apart from traditional expression of gratitude during a family dinner, there are much more creative ways to give thanks this Thanksgiving.

1. Do a good deed and volunteer

While most of us consider family the most important part of Thanksgiving, let’s not forget about those who are around us and who need some attention as well. Doing a good deed and giving your time and attention for free is the best way to express gratitude on Thanksgiving. Consider visiting a hospital or an animal shelter with your kids. When going to the hospital prepare some gifts, treats or toys (especially if you’re visiting a children’s hospital.) These small yet heartwarming presents will surely encourage those who cannot be with their families on this day. If possible, donate to the local church or charitable organization. Preparing a Thanksgiving dinner for a poor family is also a great way to express your gratitude on this day.

2. Treat people to dinner

You’re lucky if you expect a big family to come to your Thanksgiving dinner, with whom you can share happiness and togetherness. Many people, however, will be alone on this day. If you know that your aged neighbor or a friend has nobody to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, welcome them to join your family dinner. Nothing can make people happier than a sense of fellowship, company and togetherness. Your guests will definitely appreciate your invitation.

3. Create a thankful atmosphere

Create a thankful atmosphere by decorating your home with lovely crafts. A broad platter filled with fruits, nuts, greenery and cones will make a great centerpiece and embellishment of your festive table. Incorporate organic elements such as twigs, stones, leaves and acorns into your decorations and express gratitude for the gifts of nature. Use scrapbooking paper to make Thanksgiving cards and ask your guests to put down the things they are grateful for. Garlands, candles and notes with wishes and words of appreciation written on them are also a great way to encourage your family to be thankful.

4. Share your Thanksgiving memories

Thanksgiving dinner prayer and personal words of gratitude from each family member are usually an integral part of Thanksgiving celebration. However, you can change the tradition to give thanks. Ask your guests to share their warmest Thanksgiving memories and family stories.
You can also teach your children thankfulness and the roots of this holiday by reading Thanksgiving stories. Thanksgiving stories will remind everyone that this holiday is not only about tasting food and enjoying sports, but it’s also about human helpfulness and sympathy. Even though books about Thanksgiving are designed for kids, they would be rather instructive and interesting for family members of all ages.

5. Create a Thanksgiving tree

Being a lovely decorative item, a Thanksgiving tree is another great way to give thanks to your family and friends. Creating a tree of thanks can be a captivating and fun activity for the whole family. Cut out a big tree and a plenty of cardboard leaves of red, orange and yellow colors. Place it in the center of a room and encourage your guests to put down their thanks and wishes on the leaves and tie them up throughout the day. In the evening, when the tree will be covered with heartwarming notes, you can read them all.

6. Write a handwritten letter to your friend

Could you remember the last time you wrote a letter to your friend? I mean a real letter that you write using a paper and ink. Handwritten letters are out-of-date thing now, but I still believe that it’s the most precious way to show your appreciation and love. It takes you some time to find a beautiful piece of paper, pick up the necessary words and put them down accurately. Your handwriting reveals your mood and attitude to the receiver. Definitely, a person makes great efforts to write a letter; therefore handwritten letters are much more valuable and significant than print words. Mails and calls are also a good way to give thanks to your friends and kinsfolk on Thanksgiving, but writing a handwritten latter would be utterly unexpected and unique way to express your gratitude to your nearest and dearest.

7. Appreciate small things

A strong hug, a gentle kiss or a kind word can express your gratefulness better than expensive gifts. On Thanksgiving Day you shouldn’t miss an opportunity to cuddle up to your in-laws and friends or give complements to your guests. Everybody, from a baby to an old person, loves and needs to be hugged. Hugging is what you really can do to express your affection, honor and gratitude. Hugs and kisses are the best way to make your nearest and dearest happy and delight this Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is a great time to share kindness, thankfulness and appreciation. Get all your family members involved in doing something good this day, and teach your little ones to be well-wishing and gracious. Remember, Thanksgiving Day is a good time to say ‘thank you’ to everyone you know.

7 Reasons Why It’s So Important to Love Yourself

7 Reasons Why It’s So Important to Love Yourself

Reasons Why It's So Important to Love Yourself
Loving yourself and narcissism or selfishness are absolutely different things. Love is all about giving and receiving and if you can give enough care, attention and sympathy to yourself, most probably you can give it to others as well. You must have heard the old truth that we cannot love others if we cannot love ourselves. Love flourishes when we give it to other people, but love always starts with ‘me’. We are the only ones responsible for our life, choices and deeds so we just have no right to be neglectful of ourselves. However, I’ve never thought about why it’s so important to love yourself even though I completely agree with the statement. The reasons stated below show that loving yourself is really essential.

1. When you love who you are, you accept who you are

Indeed, I know perfectly well all my positive and negative sides and I accept them. It doesn’t mean I’m satisfied with all my traits. Loving yourself doesn’t mean that you should stop improving yourself. It just helps you realize that you are the only one, with your unique traits, qualities and potentialities. It gives a great sense of confidence. When you accept who you are, you feel no need to counterfeit someone or compare yourself to others. And this is the most powerful and inspiring feeling ever.

2. It gives you confidence and approval

We all love confident and charismatic people. This is our inner subconscious desire and you cannot do anything with it. Compassion is also important but when people need to talk to someone, they usually address a strong confident person. People who love themselves are more likely to get a better job, promotion and more friends and admirers. I think it’s a crucial reason to love yourself.

3. You will avoid self-reproach

Self-reproach, sorrow and sense of shame are the worst things a person can experience. Loving yourself means being less anxious and depressed and also less inclined to stresses and self-torture. A friend of mine was always dissatisfied with her weight, even though she was really a beautiful girl. She stuck to numerous diets and lost so much weight that she was forced to see the doctor. It’s a terrible yet common situation that shows lack of love to yourself.

4. When you love yourself, you look better

It’s really simple. You can concentrate on your strong points instead of bothering about your weaknesses and imperfections. Everybody has imperfections but most people don’t care about them. For example, I’m short and will never change it. Moreover, I hate high heels, can you imagine it? I’ve been obsessed with this problem for years and I couldn’t see that I have a nice body, beautiful eyes and kind heart. But when I accepted that imperfection about myself I became even more beautiful.

5. If you love yourself, you are more likely to have a better family life

When you love yourself, you know what you deserve. In this sense I’d like to follow my mom’s example. My parents still have a very tender and warm relationship, even though they’ve been married for more than 25 years. I’ve never noticed the slightest sign of contempt or lack of respect between them. I know perfectly well that my mom wouldn’t stand such a treatment. When you love yourself you will never be ill-treated. And this is very important for a healthy family life.

6. …and happier children

Children always try to copy their parents’ behavior, manners, views and literally everything. The ability to love is one of the crucial things your kids should adopt. But it will be impossible if the parent can’t display this ability. When you love yourself, you set a healthy and vital example for your kids. The researches have proved that a child’s success and happiness are largely determined by the experience he received in his childhood. That’s why if you want to teach your kids to love themselves, you should learn to love yourself first.

7. When you love yourself, the world around you changes

When we fall in love everything around us becomes more beautiful and appealing. Falling in love with yourself is no exception. It enables you to look at things, people and life from another perspective, better perspective. But the most important thing is that all these changes are about your perception only. Thus you can choose whether you love yourself and this world or not.
Self-love can make you a better person. It improves your physical, psychological and emotional state. Give it a try and you’ll see that you attract more good people and circumstances into your life. Do you agree with my list of reasons why it’s so important to love yourself? Share your thoughts, please.
