mind and happiness

அது உங்களைச் சூழ்ந்துள்ளது;

[8/15, 6:29 AM] JagadeeshChandraKrishnan: Jalaluddin Rumi emphasizes - 'Remember - that which I am not - anatta.'  The Sufis call this pana - one's disappearance.  And for this hiding, one must be ready - not only ready but deeply receptive.  It will bring great joy, because all your suffering is in your arrogance.  The concept of 'I' is your complete ignorance.  The concept of 'I am' creates all kinds of tension and problems for you.  Arrogance is hell.
Happiness is where you are.

 It surrounds you;

 It is a natural phenomenon.

When you are in harmony with your life,

When you accept whatever life gives you and are happy
 Happiness occurs.

True happiness is here and now.

The past has nothing to do with the future.

 Happiness is in the present

Bhuddha Suthoram

[8/10, 4:46 PM] JagadeeshChandraKrishnan: THE BEAUTIFUL LOGIC OF THE FOUR SEALS

As an example of the first seal — impermanence — consider generosity. When we begin to realize the first truth, we see everything as transitory and without value, as if it belonged in a Salvation Army donation bag. We don’t necessarily have to give it all away, but we have no clinging to it. When we see that our possessions are all impermanent compounded phenomena, that we cannot cling to them forever, generosity is already practically accomplished.

Understanding the second seal, that all emotions are pain, we see that the miser, the self, is the main culprit, providing nothing but a feeling of poverty. Therefore, by not clinging to the self, we find no reason to cling to our possessions, and there is no more pain of miserliness. Generosity becomes an act of joy.

Realizing the third seal, that all things have no inherent existence, we see the futility of clinging because whatever we are clinging to has no truly existing nature. It’s like dreaming that you are distributing a billion dollars to strangers on the street. You can give generously because it’s dream money, and yet you are able to reap all the fun of the experience. Generosity based on these three views inevitably makes us realize that there is no goal. It is not a sacrifice endured in order to get recognition or to ensure a better rebirth.

Generosity without a price tag, expectations, or strings provides a glimpse into the fourth view, the truth that liberation, enlightenment, is beyond conception.

If we measure the perfection of a virtuous action, such as generosity, by material standards — how much poverty is eliminated — we can never reach perfection. Destitution and the desires of the destitute are endless. Even the desires of the wealthy are endless; in fact the desires of humans can never be fully satisfied.

But according to Siddhartha, generosity should be measured by the level of attachment one has to what is being given and to the self that is giving it.

Once you have realized that the self and all its possessions are impermanent and have no truly existing nature, you have nonattachment, and that is perfect generosity.

For this reason the first action encouraged in the Buddhist sutras is the practice of generosity.

Human being

[8/1, 5:27 PM] JagadeeshChandraKrishnan: You see the people. They are miserable because they have compromised on every point, and they cannot forgive themselves because they have compromised. They know that they could have dared, but they proved cowards. In their own eyes they have fallen, they have lost self-respect; that's what compromise does.

Why should one compromise? What have we got to lose? In this small life, live as totally as possible. Don't be afraid of going to the extreme, you cannot go more than total, that is the last line; and don't compromise. Your whole mind will go for compromise because that's how we have been brought up, conditioned.

Dhiyanam

[7/26, 12:55 PM] JagadeeshChandraKrishnan: Meditation...it's useless.

Because you're being yourself when you're doing something useless.

Being alone, painting, lying on the beach is useless.

You buy the brick and earth as useful, but you don't live in the brick and earth. You live in the useless void in between.

You cannot buy or sell it because it is worthless.

Whenever you do something useful, you get tired.

You have been brought up to do what is useful.

If the child is playing, stop it and do something useful for that time.

Fools say they can turn time into money.

You can convert time into money, which can be converted into more money and stored in banks.

'Time' converted into money will never come back.

You will eventually die with more bank savings
 Completely poor inside.

Inside you have to do something worthless to become permanently wealthy.

 It is meditation.

[7/26, 10:59 AM] JagadeeshChandraKrishnan: ANY TIME IS RIGHT TIME FOR
                                                      MEDITATION
No special posture is needed, no special time is needed. There are people who think there are special times. No, not for meditation; any time is the right time - you just have to be relaxed and playful. And if it does not happen it does not matter; don't feel sad.... Because I am not telling you that it will happen today, or tomorrow, or within three months or six months. I am not giving you any expectation because that will become a tension in your mind. It can happen any day, it may not happen: it all depends on how playful you are.

Just start playing - in the bathtub, when you are not doing anything, why not play? Sitting under your shower, you are not doing anything; the shower is doing its work. You are simply standing there; for those few moments just be playful. Walking on the road, walking can be done by the body; you are not needed, the legs do it. Any moment where you can feel relaxed, non-tense, play with the idea of meditation the way I have explained to you. Just be silent, centered in yourself, and someday....

And there are only seven days - don't be worried!

So Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or by Sunday at least - within seven day - some day it is going to happen. Just enjoy yourself with the idea and play with the idea as many times as you can. If nothing happens - I am not promising you anything - if nothing happens that's perfectly good, you enjoyed yourself. You played with the idea, you gave it a chance.

Go on giving it a chance. Henry Ford said, "Go on jumping and when the chance, the opportunity comes, jump upon it." I say just the reverse. You just go on giving a chance to meditation, and when the right moment comes and you are really relaxed and open, it jumps upon you.

And once meditation jumps upon you it never leaves.

There is no way.

So think twice before you start playing!

consciousness

[7/25, 9:54 AM] JagadeeshChandraKrishnan: Keep this in your consciousness:
Nature is not anguish, it is blissfulness.

It is not anxiety, misery, suffering:
It is love, it is rejoicing.

It is a constant celebration.

We come out of this nature, we are part of this nature;
we inherit the same qualities in our consciousness.

But the society does not want you to be rejoicing.
Society does not want you to be blissful, loving, silent, peaceful. That goes against the structure of the so-called society that man has made.

It wants people who are full of anxiety, anguish, tensions, miseries, sufferings - because they are the people who can be enslaved.

They are the people who can be sent to war.
And they are the people who can be
goaded into any stupid job:
Anyway they are suffering - it does not matter to them
what work they are put to.

But a man of blissfulness has his tremendous freedom -
it comes with it. A man of love cannot be enslaved.
Freedom, love, joy create the real individual you are.

They are the qualities you are made of.

And the society tries to hide that individual,
repress that individual - and creates a phony individual
which it can manipulate.

But nothing is perfect in the world.

The society does everything, but still there are loopholes.
There are moments when your real nature asserts.

Soon the mind catches hold of you,
convinces you that it was illusory:
"You are just imagining. It never happened - I am the reality."
So you have to be conscious of this strategy.

The mind is not yours, it is your enemy.
Don't listen to it.

Whatever it says goes against you.

Listen to something that comes not from the mind -
that's why it looks as if it is from the unknown.

Not only listen to it, but get more and more acquainted with it, allow it more and more space in you. Give it as many chances as possible.

This is the whole work of the seeker:
what the society has made of him,
he has to undo, and recover his natural being.

And these moments are part of his natural being.
Make them come more and more.
Welcome them, relish them,
and they will be coming more,
and they will be staying more -
because after all they are the reality.

And if the mind becomes clear that it is not your friend,
it stops creating a rift between you and your real nature.
A day comes when the mind simply drops because now its function is no longer there.

And then your life - those twenty-four hours a day -
are of love, are of peace, are of silence, are of great joy.

Mind is the worst creation that society has put in every individual..

 நாம் இந்த இயற்கையிலிருந்து வெளியே வருகிறோம், இந்த இயற்கையின் ஒரு பகுதியாக இருக்கிறோம்;

Guru

[7/21, 6:39 PM] jagadeeshkrishnan: The word ‘guru’ is untranslatable. Neither does the word ‘teacher’ nor the word ‘Master’ have that beauty. In fact, the phenomenon of the guru is so deeply Indian that no other language of any country is capable of translating it. It is something intrinsically Eastern. The word ‘guru’ is made of two words, ‘gu’ and ‘ru’. ‘Gu’ means darkness; ‘ru’ means one who dispels it. Guru literally means ‘the light’. And you have the light within you, yes! If you come across a Buddha or a Jesus or a Krishna or a Mahavir, it will be of tremendous help to you in finding your inner guru, because seeing Buddha, suddenly a great enthusiasm and hope will arise in you: 'If it can happen to Buddha'- who is just like you, the same body, the same blood, bone, marrow – 'if it can happen to this man, why not to me?' The hope is the beginning. Meeting with the Master on the outside is the beginning of a great hope, a great aspiration.
